news from the rockies

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. It is a great time of year to spend with family and friends. I thought I would post a picture with Janene's and My Christmas gift from Mike and Addie. Look at the picture... really close... that's right, we are pregnant!! Nice shirts hey! It seems to be a very catchy thing lately. I will let you all get the real info from Addie and Mike, things like when is the due date etc.
I am pretty slow on the up swing. When we opened the presents and Janene and I were reading our shirts, Janene promptly said "congratulations" and I was still reading the words on my shirt wondering... "why would they give me this"? Pretty slow huh.
Well, we are very excited and are feeling blessed. I know Charlene and Louis are old pros at this being a grandparent thing but it certainly is a new experience for us. Well that is the latest from the rockies! We had a good christmas and are looking forward to 2009.
Love you all and have a happy and prosperous new year!

Merry Christmas Everyone

Well,

We had a very eventful Christmas morning. The 89 year old man from across the street fell down in the middle of the street in the snow and Cass and I and another neighbor lady spent over an hour with him until the paramedics got there.

Anyway here is a Christmas card for all of you, just go to the link and enjoy the show.

This link is only good until January 15

Merry Christmas to all and I hope everyone enjoys the Holiday Season and all the travelers are safe.

Austin and Jacey, he was so proud

Hey all, thought I would get on here before heading to the Mac and post some things. Bird crew is doing great! Minus being really sick, things are pretty good. Jon has one more exam to finish so we hope that they go well. I am finishing up Christmas shopping and wrapping, and preparing to play for Mom's Christmas concert. Should be fun! Jacey is still same old same old, getting bigger. Her and I are sick right now though, yucky colds and she has this pathetic little cough, too sad!We are excited to head up to the Mac for Christmas with Jon's fam and mine this year, should be really fun! Also getting super pumped to head to Seattle in January, here we come guys...are you ready? Could be a bit of a gongshow!! Anyways just a quick note, here are a few pics I have of the lady and others, enjoy. Talk soon, love you lots! Bird Family

Merry Christmas to all!

Just a little note... A couple weeks ago we went to Barrhead to visit Roxannes parents and then we went to Edmonton. We got a chance to see Brandon and Barbs house. It is very nice. Gramma and Grampa came with us. We had a nice visit and Grampa was finally introduced to Barb and her kids. I think we are ready for Christmas now. We will be staying at home and will be visiting Jordan, Kristina and their kids. Aaron ,Chelsea and Brooke will be here for a visit sometime between now and the 25th. We will also be going over to Charlene and Louis. It sounds like they will have a house full. So we would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Here are a couple of photo. Ya ... I know ! I'm told that I'm gloating and suffering from pride. But it is a very nice milestone to reach.

A Wonderful Season

Hi Everyone, I thought that instead of commenting on all your messages, I would just post one.

I love your tree, Addie & Mike. Your first Christmas together and everything that goes with it is very special and a great memory. Improvising is the most fun. The tree-topper is the cutest. Enjoy...

Yes, chocolate making was a great experience. It's been at least 30 years since I last made them. They aren't the most professional, but being together and having a special experience together is more important than any perfectly made chocolate. I also decided that they must be putting some kind of additive into cereal cream or half & half, whatever you want to call it because all the fondent we made using half & half did not turn out really well but when I used whipping cream, it was as it should be, even though I made it the same way. Anyway, it was a busy busy time. I'm sure Grampa's home teaching families will enjoy their treats.

Troy - I think turkey twice in two months is really gross -- especially when you taunt the rest of us!! I hope you enjoyed every bite. I'm looking forward to doing some cooking with Calorado when we get down there. Cal - let me know if there are any specific recipes I should bring along. I'm actually getting better at making home-made soups. Either that, or Grampa's not as picky as he used to be!!

I'm using this computer with our new flat screen that Brent brought and hooked up yesterday. Way much more space on the computer table. (I'm a piler, so it will probably get piled before too long.) I love the screen.

Well, we work at the temple this pm and are both going to snooze for an hour before we go so I need to sign off.

We love you all,
Gramma

It's December!

Hey everyone!!
Those chocolates look really great! Sounds (and looks) like it was a lot of fun! Mike and I just set up our poor little tree tonight! We are very excited for christmas and have a few pictures to share! Enjoy!!
Love you all,
Addie&Mike
P.S.
We did not have a tree topper, so ...mike improvised! haha

Betty Crocker, Aunt Jemima
& Martha Stewart

Well hello family, thought I would post some pics of the deliciousness that went on at Gramma and Grampa's house this weekend! We started on Saturday morning, gramma was up at 7 melting chocolate and all of the dippers arrived around 9:30ish. We dipped tons of them probably close to 1500 chocolates...it was a gong show! There were eating breaks, sleeping breaks, community bathtub breaks and yes, sampling breaks. It was a great bonding day for us ladies...and Grampa and Kingston. We did: Lemon, Orange, Strawberry, Cherry, Almond, Caramel, Butterscotch, Vanilla, Cherry-Almond, Peppermint patties, Choco-mint, Coconut, Macaroons, Brazil nuts, Almonds and Pecans. It was a crazy day with no space in poor Gramma and Gramps house. We love you lots, here is to tempt your taste buds!!!

Again!! Kidding gramps

Hey guys, thought I would post from our fondant making. A long, fun day!! Pumped to chocolate dip this weekend. Also put up a few sis pics...and babies too!! Us "Hinko" girls and kidlets went shopping yesterday 5 hours for 3 places, ridiculous!!! We had lots of fun at Babies R Us, it turned into a feeding frenzy...literally!! I changed and nursed Jacey and then Les changed and nursed Kingston...and Jenny sat there thinking soon she has to change and nurse little TBA. We ended up having a photo shoot in there and goofing around, mom would not have been proud. This continued until a lady knocked on the door to use it... hehe we skidaddled then. Then eating at Julio's the people behind us were a bit tipsy and loved the babies (which we did not let them hold...yikes) and some guy left the door open causing a draft. The tipsy man from behind us started giving him heck and the woman called him a fiesty name... the poor guy didn't even know what he did. Needless to say we did not rumble and left pretty quick after...umm couldn't been a brawl! Jenny the muscle coulda taken them all!!!! Anyways it was super fun to bond as sisters again and can't wait to see everyone!! Love you all

Weddings Galore

Well, I think this coming year may be the busiest year for NEW ADDITIONS (weddings and babies) to the family. Jordan and Kristina I'm excited for you guys. If anyone is interested in broadcasting the weddings that the Americans can't attend (so they can watch live on-line) it would be very cool. I can teach someone over the phone (and computer), it is really quite easy. Please let me know if anyone is interested.

Everyone take care and we love you all,

Troy

We have a Date Set!

hello everyone,

We hardly ever come on here because its hard to find a computer. Ours crashed and we are waiting on a new one. The four of us are doing great and Keisha really enjoys kindergarten. Austin is just a little monster most of the time, he likes to play fight alot but he sure loves hockey, especially the goalie.

As for Kristina and I we have indeed set a date for our wedding. The big day is July 18, 2009 in Fort McMurray and we will be getting invitations out there sometime in the spring.

When we get our new computer we will keep in touch and upload some photos.

Talk later,
Bye

Long Time

Sorry it's been so long since we've been on, we've been very busy with work, the house and doing hockey broadcasts.

In answer to Moms blog, The Americans do celebrate Nov. 11, We call it Veterans Day. We had a big Veterans Day parade and many different ceremonies around town. In Gig Harbor, near the bridge, there is a Memorial Wall. Often times during the year there are people there paying their respects to the fallen soldiers. One thing the Americans are really proud of is their Military, and they are the most patriotic country I have ever seen. We don't have poppies on our side, but I understand from other people that the Mid-West and Eastern States do the poppy thing like we did in Canada.

Mom I bet your fondant turned out great. I used to love the homemade chocolates, they were always good to sample while being made.

Garth, I would like to put a link to your company website and a logo from your company on the blog. If you could send me a link and logo I will make it happen.

Everyone here is doing well. Things are busy....

If anyone wants to watch the hockey broadcasts, you need to e-mail me and I can send you a password that is good for 6 hours from the time it is generated. Then you need to go to tomahawkshockeyclub.com and click on the Sports Stream Logo and then log in to view content.

Everyone take care and God Bless you all,
We love you all and miss you all very much,

Troy and Nancy and the kids.

Remembrance Day

I was doing some thinking and remembering. I am very grateful for the freedoms we have, thanks to the many who fought for that freedom and thanks to my parents for immigrating to Canada.

I was also thinking about how much I enjoyed going to the Remembrance Day services in Fort McMurray and chiding myself for not having taken advantage of those ceremonies since moving to the city. Watching on TV is good, but it's not like being there.

I was wonding, too, what our American family is doing on this day. I don't know much about how you honour your war dead. Do you do it on November 11th as well? Do you have a symbol such as our poppy? I'm sure you do something down there, but I am very ignorant as to how and what. Please give us a little history lesson.

I am currently making a small batch of fondent just to see if I remember how. It is currently cooling. I have a feeling it's going to turn to sugar.

Love to all,
Gramma

Did you see??

In the Church News that came today (Nov. 1st issue) they announced a new Stake President for the Cardston Alberta West Stake - Douglas Brian Low. That's pretty exciting! Sarah would be so pleased. I am too!

Love to each one of you,

Tomahawks versus Coeur d'Alene Lakers

Less than 3 minutes into the broadcast Cassidy scored the first goal of the game. Tomahawks went on to win the game 5-2. They also won all 3 games this weekend.

Back on the Net

Hi Everyone - well we were unable to get onto the net for nearly a week. Telus tried helping me by phone (a very nice little girl from the Phillipines.) She ascertained that they'd have to send a technician out. This A.M. a nice young man checked connections outside. Then came inside. I told him we were techno-stupid and that I thought the grey gizmo used to have a blinking light. He smiled and said "that's right".

Anyway - we needed a new modem - (the gizmo). So we are hooked up again. The new gizmo has four lights. All of them stay on steady. He said that this is the newest modem they have out now. Hopefully it will last longer than the last one. (Every time we have a problem, I think it's something I did.)

I know, I know - each of you are giving a big sigh and saying "Gee, we were enjoying the peace & quiet without Mom always commenting!" Oh well, you're stuck with me -- forever!!

Grampa and I are both doing fine. We're back at the Employment Center on Wednesday & Thursday (so it keeps Grampa out of trouble). I think people are happy to have the center open again, even if it is only two days a week. We do not have enough staff to open the full 5 days. Hope they get more people very soon.

We are anxiously awaiting news from Leslie & Mike.

Love you all very much,
Gramma & Grampa

Polischuk MIRACLE!!!!

We have amazing news! Jenny is PREGNANT!!! After five years of trying to be patient, offereing many prayers and doing some crazy fertility stuff, things happened naturally! This is totally amzing to us!!! We are just six weeks along but have done 4 different tests and the doc says that things are going beautifully. Wow hey, can you believe it?? So according to the calendar baby should come the beginning of June, near my momma's b-day. This is a total miracle to us, we are so thankful. This pic was from the night we found out, Graham was actually in Fort McMurray so it was a over-the-phone 'best day of our lives' kind of celebration. We couldn't help sharing the news with those we love!!!!

Also, Graham got offered a job in Fort Saskatchewan! He has taken it and will start mid November. We get to be together again!!! He is excited about the job and the challenge that it will be. Big hugs to you all!!! LOVE ~ Jenny & Graham & TBA

Internet Broadcast

Thanks for all the updates we do love hearing them and being able to keep up with everyone. Glad to hear that you are enjoying your new business Garth and Jeanine. Remember to enjoy the journey and all the new things it will teach you along the way.

Grandma your baby is 45 and doing well at this growing up thing.

We are all doing great here, we have had quite the journey this year but have learned alot about our faith. We have grown alot in our faith and continue to grow and learn, some lessons a little harder than other but we are moving forward.

Troy is doing well with his Sports Stream. He has been able to get several people interested and is doing several broadcasts. This weekend he is doing Cassidy's games, next week the University of Washington Husky games, as well as a few football games. If you would like to listen to Cassidy's game he play's Tonight, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8:00pm our time. Just let us know and we can help you get on to listen to both Troy and Cassidy. (troy cell 360-340-0132) (nancy cell 360-340-8167)

The kids are all doing great. Pat is dating another great girl Heather and they are doing good. Mathew is working hard and still in school. I think he is to the point of wanting to be done, but moving along. Mark is still working in construction and texts Troy and the kids to talk with them often. Cassidy is busy with Hockey, they are on the ice everyday for a few hours along with dry land. Jeanine is working at lowes, so this keeps them very busy. Calorado is playing hockey and hanging out, he is also doing alittle work with some friends and some babysitting. Mackenzy is very busy, she is taking her classes in school as well as and independent class. She is playing hockey with her brother Cal with Cassidy and Troy coaching. She is playing outdoor soccer as well as indoor co-ed and is also playing on her Coaches over 30 indoor womens team and is also a junior coach with her outdoor coach for the 13 and under girls. Oh and when she has spare time she is always being called to babysit. I am just busy trying to keep up.
Thanks for all the updates. Love and Miss you all

The Science of Thank You

I have just finished reading (on page 108 of the October Reader's Digest) an article called "How the New Science of Thank You Can Change Your Life"

It is an article worthwhile reading. Our church leaders have encouraged us all along to show gratitude. Now the world is realizing what a great influence it has, not only on our mental health, but on our physical health and with relationships as well. Interesting that they are calling it 'NEW science'.

If you get a chance - it is a good read.

Love,
Gramma

From The Rockies

Well, it is October 7th. I would like to start by saying Happy Birthday to my Little Brother. Happy Birthday Troy!!!! It was really great to talk to you on the phone today. We sure miss ya all.

Thought I would take a few moments and update everyone on our family. Arland and Emma are doing well. They are both keeping very busy with early morning seminary, school volleyball and jazz band and socializing. They are both getting good marks in school, Janene and I are proud of the careing young adults they have become. From what I can see, I think Emma is enjoying her High School experience this year. (even though she is at the bottom of the food chain at school). Arland is the assistant coach on Emma's Volleyball team (I think he just likes to be around the girls) and thats ok too. Over all I think they are both doing fine.

We all miss Addie now that she is a married woman and living in Red Deer. (I agree with Brents comments on Addie and Mikes pics, I think that one picture of Addie and Mike on the tree branch shows that they must have had the timer on there camera set to fast as they did not get enough time to turn around for a decent exposure...) Those really are wonderful family pics Addie and Mike, and you both seem to be enjoying life and your time together. We sure look forward to having you both here during Thanksgiving.

We have enjoyed the company of Michael during the times that he comes home on his long changes from working with forestry. Chris is doing well in St Albert, and has recently started work with a new company called xcaliber. From the feed back I am getting from him I think he is enjoying it. I have been encourageing him to participate on the blog. (I even talked to his grilfriend to see if she could influence him)...I guess we will wait and see.

Janene and I are enjoying our new adventure with our business. It is called "Everything H2O". We produce, deliver and sell bottled water in our store. Some of our largest clients are the gas plants from the Red Deer to Rocky corridor. We also sell and build water purification systems. We have a water testing lab within the store which allows us to solve customers water problems. And last but not least, we sell spas or you may call them hot tubs. It is alot of fun and this will be a good career for the next 10 to 15 years.

Well I think that is all I have to say at this time. May God bless you all and may we all take the time to enjoy those little things in our lives that we seem to take for granted.

Love Garth, Janene and family.

Sunday's Conference

One of the things I decided to do this conference - instead of taking lots of notes, was to just write down points of what we were asked to do. Troy has already talked about President Monson's "enjoy the journey". Here are some (but not all) of the points I wrote down.

* Re: Unity - Speak well of each other (such a common-sense thing).
* Challenges to faith are not new.
* Never become contentious when discussing faith.
* Pray sincerely and with faith
* Cling to your covenants. Stand in holy places.
* We cannot afford to be superficially righteous.
* Don't let the most important things pass you by (take joy in the journey). Let people know you love them.
* Fill our time, as much as we can, with those things that MATTER MOST.
* Marriage between a man and a woman is sacred.
* Our house - Our home - Our refuge.
* Remember - Every cloud does NOT bring rain.
* Find someone who is having a hard time and do something nice for them.
* Read and study these conference messages in the Ensign.
* Be mindful of those around us. Live together in peace, harmony and love.
* Remember to whom we pray. Remember in whose name we pray. Welcome Him into our homes and into our hearts.

I have lots more written down, but for me, the above list was most pertinent. I hope you don't mind me writing so much. I just so enjoyed every minute of the conference and wanted to share.

Love to everyone,
Gramma

Enjoy the Journey

It's interesting that Pres. Monson talked about focusing on the journey not focusing on all the tomorrows. After all the struggles we have been going through the last few months, Nancy and I have been praying a lot and trying to find the direction in our life, and we have come to realize that we cannot focus on all the things that are in the future (although you must still keep them in mind), we know we will get there and that things will be fine. We just need to ENJOY THE JOURNEY. We keep telling each other that we will get there, enjoy the ride. After the last few months my testimony on faith and prayer has increased ten-fold, and I know that the things that have happened recently have come about because of our prayers and faith, along with our temple attendance.

We didn't get to see yesterdays conference because we were spending time with our children, as those times pass way to quickly, as Pres. Monson also stated.

We have also been working hard on getting the Sports Stream going. Friday night I went to Sequim (pronounced Squim) to do a football broadcast with a gentleman that wants to do all the games. While there I talked to a football coach and a basketball coach that both are very interested in doing broadcasts.

We are sorry we haven't been on for a while as we have had lots going on in our lives. I really appreciate those who post and make this blog a success. I enjoy reading and keeping up on the family as time moves on.

We love and miss you all,
Love Troy and Nancy (and all the other Americans)

Saturday Conference Sessions

You probably all watched conference, but here is my short re-cap:

President Monson announced 5 new temples. One for Calgary!! How exciting is that! He also announced one for Rome! and 3 others.

Here are some thoughts I got out of today's sessions:
* Pray for the opening of areas that are now closed.
* Simplify your lifestyle
* Observe the word of wisdom
* Dress modestly
* Maintain spiritual fuel
* We don't know everything but we know enough (be an example)
* Store spirituality for difficult times
* Faith is not only a feeling, it is a decision
* Read the Book of Mormon
* The power of hope -- Never give in, never despair.
* Everyone must experience sorrow. No one is exempt.
* Angels are watching over us - those seen and those unseen.
* Take heart - be filled with faith - search diligently - pray always.
* Open your heart like a little child.
* Give a prayer where you only give thanks. (I'm going to work on this)

This is a pretty long list. I didn't realize I had this much. Grampa really enjoyed the Priesthood session.

We hope you all - every one of you - know how much we love you.

Grampa's Eyes

We just came from seeing the Dr. and he confirmed that Grampa will need cornea transplants. Both eyes. He will do the right one first. So...Grampa has been placed on a donor list. He said it would probably be at least a year. They'll do the right one, and when they know it is completely healed, (approx. 3 to 6 months) they'll do the left. He said that they were badly in need of donors. (I've had my donor card signed for a long time!) - have you?

Reminds me of a joke Great Grampa Hudkins used to tell about the farmer who was trying to sell a blind horse. He told the potential buyer "She's a good horse, she just don't look so good."

We really enjoyed last weekend and are now looking forward to general conference.

Love you all very much,
Gramma

Baby showers and Blessings

I realize that I just posted a few days ago but this one has pics and actual stories hehe

Saturday was Les and my joint baby shower thrown by our awesome sis Jenny. It was too cute! The theme was Nursery Rhymes and had awesome snacks tied in and fun games provided by gramma and Jen. It was soo busy, tons of people came. You know your loved...or else that you have cute kids! hehe Les and I cashed out, couldn't believe it. It was sure nice to get to spend time with our family and see everyone. What a special clan we do have!

Sunday was Jacey's blessing and again it was nice to have family there. Jon's family was there too which was special to have them experience this. Grampa Hudkins blessed her...classic! It was funny, at the beginning I realized, as did most of our family that there was a baby who was sure crying. All of our mutual thoughts were 'somebody take that baby out', when we realized after a minute that it was Jacey screeching into the microphone! Funny, how all our family thought it was someone else. Anyways I was watching the blessing and poor grandpa trying to readjust her or move her to quiet her and watching all the bishoprics' hands shifting wherever grandpa moved Jacey. hehe too funny, one councillor was trying to jiggle her suckey into her mouth and the other one kept checking over grandpa's shoulder if she was breathing ok. I've never seen a busier blessing. Poor guys!

We all went for grub at Jen's house, she cooked home-made taco shells for the whole family!!! Delish! We got some great family pictures of Jacey with her blessing dress on. It is a special dress made out of Grandma's, my moms and Jenny's wedding dresses. Beautiful!

Promise I'm almost done, just wanted to write about Jacey and Kingston's (Les's bump) playdates. They have had a few. The first one was a few weeks ago. Les was laying on the floor with Jacey on her tummy, when Kingston started to kick her in the head. Jacey's head would bounch up and down and she started to smile while she slept. Little secrets between them I guess! Also on Saturday morning Les had Jacey's bum pressed against her belly when Kingston started to kick it and she had this huge grin and chuckle in her sleep, too cute! They must remember each other from heaven...she's probably telling him to run while he still can before jumping into the Hudkins clan hehe Anyways we'll run now, just wanted to share. Hope all's well with everyone. We love you lots! Love: Jon, Alyson and Jacey

Jacey's Blessing

Hey family, hope that everything is great with everyone! I thought I would come on here and write a little note about Jacey's blessing. Since it is the joint baby shower for Les and I, we thought we would do the blessing this weekend as well. Anyone who will be in Edmonton or more specifically Ft. Saskatchewan is more than welcome to come and be there with us. Sacrament starts at 10 am and then after we are eating at Jen's place. I know a few of you will be there which will be special.

Jacey, Jon and I are doing great. Jacey is slowly readjusting her nighttimes to be more beneficial for Mommy!! hehe Some nights I can sleep for 4-5 hours straight...but others are like a welcoming committee every hour or so. Hopefully it will get there. Good ol' Jon just reaches over and rubs my back for 5 secs before falling back asleep. Gee, hope we don't keep him up! (This is my most sarcastic voice right here) =) It is sure nice living with Jen and Graham too. Jenny is such a help. When I am about ready to sell Jacey, Jenny steps in, convinces me not to and takes her for a little while. Graham seems almost in love with her and she sure likes to sit and cuddle with him. Must be the mellow guy vibes that him and Jon give off!

Anyways hope that everyone is doing great. We sure miss everyone. Take care, Love you!
Love: Jon, Alyson and Jacey

Hey Hudkins family!!!

This is Brandon and I would like to make an announcement.

I met a wonderful women who has taken my breath away and my heart. Her name is Barb and we have been together for half a year and I have asked her to marry me... she said "YES"- Lord help me in my hour of need! Now I have to get this ball rolling! I know I have not posted anything on this site, and this must be a surprise to all of you. I love you all. Barb and I will check up on the family site more often and keep you updated on the wedding and the milestones in our life. A for sure thing is that we have decided on getting married on May 23rd of 2009. As I have said we will keep everyone up to par on everything very soon.

The Stannix's

Hey family!
It's been so exciting to come on here and see so many posts!! Congrats to everyone. It's soo exciting to see so many new engagements! Baby Jacey is adorable! The pics are great, keep it up! ;)
Not much is new with us. We started school last week and are already bogged down with homework and projects and studying, but it's fun! Mike is starting his second year in the commerce program and working towards becoming an accountant. Law has become a new interest of his and he is debating doing business law or something along those lines. I started my second year working towards my Bachelor of Education. With school, part time jobs, institute and church callings we have been keeping very busy! I have been subbing a lot in primary playing piano and teaching sharing time. It's been a blast!! A few sundays ago I taught the 16-18 yr old sunday school class! It was fun, except some of those kids were in my trek groups and stuff!!! (weird). Mike is teaching Elders quorum and loves it!!

We love you all lots!
